Backyard Remodeling in El Segundo

Stout Design Build remodels backyards in El Segundo and across the South Bay. We design and build each project in-house. Our work covers coastal patios, outdoor kitchens, and full yard redesigns. We know small lots and salt air. One company handles your design, your city permits, and your build.

Why El Segundo Homeowners Choose Stout

El Segundo feels like a small town by the sea. People here want a builder who gets that. We have shaped South Bay yards for 30 years. We hold an active California contractor license. We carry full bonding and insurance. You work with one point of contact the whole way. You get honest pricing and a clear schedule. You get a backyard that fits beach-town living near The Strand. Many homeowners call us after a rough run with separate vendors. We do not pass your project around. The firm that draws your plans also builds them.

What Does Backyard Remodeling in El Segundo Include?

Patios and Outdoor Living

A good patio doubles your living space. We build clean, modern patios that fit tight lots. You get a real room under the open sky.

Outdoor Kitchens and BBQ Islands

You can cook outside even on a small lot. We design slim islands, grills, and counters that fit side yards. Your guests stay close while you cook.

Pools and Spas Custom

Pool design, engineering, and construction by a licensed pool contractor — the same team handling your patio and planting. North of Montana estates support full-size gunite builds. Smaller Sunset Park and Ocean Park lots suit compact plunge pools and integrated spas. Coastal zone properties may require a Coastal Development Permit. The pool contractor is the same person who designed your patio.

Pergolas, Shade, and Privacy Screens

Close neighbors make privacy a top request here. Pergolas and screens give you shade and seclusion. They block the view and soften the afternoon sun.

Landscape, Plants, and Smart Irrigation

Coastal plants thrive on less water. We design with drought-tolerant species and smart irrigation. Your yard stays green and your water bill stays low

North of Montana — Full Outdoor Transformation

Real projects show our work better than words. Near Main Street, a family had a narrow, unused yard. We added a slim outdoor kitchen, a paver patio, and a privacy screen. They now eat dinner outside most nights. Off Grand Avenue, a couple wanted a pool on a small lot. We built a spool with a sun ledge and a fire corner. The yard finally feels like a retreat.West of Sepulveda Boulevard, salt air had rusted an old patio cover. We rebuilt it with marine-grade steel and a cedar pergola. It now shrugs off the coastal weather.

How We Design and Build Your Backyard

Consultation and Site Visit

We visit your home and study the lot. We listen to how you want to use the space. We note sun, wind, drainage, and access

Design and 3D Visualization

We turn your goals into a real design. You see your yard in 3D before we dig. Changes happen on screen, not on the job site.

Proposal and City Permits

You get a clear proposal with honest numbers. We pull permits through the City of El Segundo Planning and Building Safety Division. We manage city review and inspections for you

In-House Construction

Our own crews build the project. We do not hand the core work to strangers. You get one schedule and one standard of quality

Final Walkthrough and Warranty

We walk the finished yard with you. We fix anything that falls short. Your project comes with a written craftsmanship warranty.

Built for El Segundo's Coastal Climate

El Segundo sits right on the coast by Vista Del Mar. Salt air and the marine layer test cheap materials fast. We build for that from day one.We pick marine-grade metals, fasteners, and finishes. We choose woods and stone that hold up by the ocean. Good drainage keeps moisture from doing damage. Your yard should last for decades, not seasons.

Do You Handle Permits in El Segundo?

Yes. We manage permits through the City of El Segundo Planning and Building Safety Division. El Segundo issues its own permits, not the City of Los Angeles. For lots near the shoreline, we also check California Coastal Commission rules. You do not chase paperwork. We submit plans and schedule every inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do backyard projects in Santa Monica require permits?

Yes. Patio covers, in-ground pools and spas, outdoor kitchens with gas lines, retaining walls over certain heights, and all electrical work require permits through the City of Santa Monica Building and Safety Division. Coastal zone properties may additionally require a Coastal Development Permit. We manage every submission

What is the City's Electronic Plan Review System?

Santa Monica's permit process is fully paperless. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted digitally through the City's Electronic Plan Review System before any counter visit. We prepare complete, correctly formatted digital submissions so incomplete application delays do not affect your timeline

Can you work on coastal zone properties?

Yes. We identify coastal zone status at the initial site visit, prepare both building and Coastal Development Permit applications where required, and file simultaneously to minimize total timeline
