The challenges involved with this Cape Cod style home included elevation changes, limited space, an existing pool, house remodel and the client’s wish list of plants that included a formal area. The newly installed 10’ collapsible doors and the continuous ashlar pattern bluestone patio create a seamless transition to the outdoors. Stepping over the threshold brings the indoors into this outdoor room. A white wooden patio cover draws together the upper pool patio and the outdoor kitchen, while supporting the fan and three heat lamps. Below the base of the upper pool patio, a 4’ weeping retaining wall with seating at the top of the wall was built. The weeping wall brought the necessary retaining wall alive and complemented to space. Across from the weeping wall and the seating area is the outdoor kitchen complete with refrigerator, sink and wet bar. The focal point in this project is the fire place, which also serves as a retaining wall and provides screening for the pool equipment and AC unit. The flagstone flooring has been a major factor in bringing the Cape Cod style into the city.
